About the Role: WASH Technical Lead
This position provides sector-specific technical leadership, manages a team of specialists, and drives the growth of the WASH portfolio. The role reports to the Technical Director and works closely with the Resource Acquisition and Management (RAM) team.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Thought Leadership:
- Lead the development and review of the national WASH strategy.
- Provide strategic guidance to ensure all programs are evidence-based and contextually relevant.
- Represent WVE on national and global technical platforms and contribute to sector-wide learning.
- Resource Mobilization & Donor Engagement:
- Lead the technical design for proposals and identify new funding opportunities.
- Develop and manage relationships with key donors (USAID/BHA, FCDO, EU, UN, etc.).
- Contribute a measurable portion of funding to the national portfolio through successful resource acquisition.
- Program Quality Assurance & Team Management:
- Provide ongoing technical coaching and capacity building for project staff and local partners.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor technical quality and provide hands-on support.
- Foster a collaborative team environment and mentor a team of Technical Specialists.
- Collaboration & Representation:
- Build strong working relationships with government ministries, UN agencies, and other NGOs.
- Influence national policy through field-based evidence and innovation.
- Actively engage with World Vision’s global and regional technical teams to share learning.
Who We’re Looking For (Qualifications & Experience)
Required Education & Experience
- Education: A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, or another WASH-related field. (A Bachelor’s degree with substantial experience may be considered).
- Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in technical leadership roles within international development or humanitarian contexts.
- Resource Mobilization: A proven track record of securing and managing large-scale donor funding and leading the technical input for competitive proposals.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of water supply systems, hygiene promotion, humanitarian WASH standards (e.g., Sphere), and climate-resilient WASH.
- Leadership: Excellent leadership, people management, and team-building skills.
- Communication: Strong report writing, analytical, and presentation skills in English and Amharic.
- External Engagement: Proven ability to represent an organization at high-level forums and build strong relationships with donors and government partners.
- Travel: Willingness to travel frequently to field offices and project sites, sometimes in challenging environments.
