RESPONSIBILITIES 

In the areas of public relations (PR) and communications, the intern will provide technical assistance with the following jobs:

• Assist in interacting with internal and external target audiences and supporting the program advocacy and communications advisor’s communications initiatives.

• Coordinating and, when necessary, monitoring communications efforts (including quality of content and form, quantity, and effectiveness). • Supporting communication activities in terms of planning and execution.

• Supporting programs and projects with their communications activities (such as design, publishing, and event organizing) by taking part in programs that provide communication assistance.

• Encourages projects and programs to submit communication products for quality assurance reviews, such as publications, press releases, etc.

• Planning the creation, dissemination, and gathering of material for success stories from the programs through various internal and external venues, including digital platforms.

•           This internship will put a lot of emphasis on organizing and arranging the creation of communication products. (Examples include project summaries, information sheets, advertising collateral, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, info sheets, etc.)

• Use programs to help with the creation of the social media content collection.

• Participate in the planning of events

Position Requirements

Minimum educational requirements, work experience, and competence

We’re searching for a motivated, imaginative, and open-minded team member who can work well with others, manage various responsibilities, and thrive in a multicultural setting. The applicant should be well-organized, systematic, and detail-oriented. The following qualifications are technical requirements: • University degree in journalism, communications, or a similar subject (those pursuing an MA in the aforementioned disciplines may also apply).

• A recent graduate in one of the relevant disciplines.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, as well as a strong journalistic voice.

• Editorial experience in drafting press releases and articles (work examples may be provided)

• Knowledge of internal communications, which involves sharing information and encouraging conversation inside an organization.

• Media production experience, maybe with publishing or graphic design applications like Adobe InDesign or Adobe Photoshop.

• It helps to have previous experience with video editing.

• It helps to have excellent English language skills.

Position Description

In 1978, JSI Research and Training Inc., currently known as John Snow, Inc., was created. The mission of the international JSI organization is to promote community and individual health. JSI has operations in 106 nations with a substantial presence in Ethiopia. In 1994, the first JSI project in Ethiopia got underway. JSI is currently working on several initiatives in Ethiopia, including Improve Primary Health Care Service Delivery (IPHCSD) and Electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS).

Amref Health Africa and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) are working together to implement the IPHCSD in eight different Ethiopian regions: Amhara, Oromia, Sidama, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People’s (SNNP), Southwest,t Ethiopia People’s, Afar, Somali, and Gambella. These areas were chosen to represent pastoral, agro-pastoral, and agricultural environments.

Since December 2020, the eCHIS initiative has been operating in the Amhara, Oromia, SNNP, and Sidama areas with assistance from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.

So, JSI/IPHCSD/eCHIS is looking for a communication intern who is skilled in design and enthusiastic about using digital media.
