Position Description

The Centre for Victims of Torture strives towards a day where torture is unheard of and its victims may look forward to a fresh beginning. We are an international charity organization committed to helping torture and war trauma sufferers. We provide direct treatment to victims of torture, educate partners globally to stop torture and cure war trauma, do research, promote human rights, and fight to outlaw torture. Our headquarters are in Minnesota, USA, and we also have locations throughout the Middle East and Africa.

This is a full-time employment centered in Gambella, Ethiopia’s Nguenyyiel camp, and neighboring regions. Visit any additional CVT field centers that are required. Both the Zonal Manager and the Physiotherapist/Trainers will get clinical and administrative reporting from the role holders.

Among other things, physiotherapists will have the following important roles and responsibilities:

Attendance, participation, and use of the information covered in intense initial and continuous training are among the essential duties, although they are not the only ones.

• Offer physiotherapy treatments that are trauma-informed to IDPs, refugees, and host communities.

• Conduct individual and group physiotherapy sessions, as directed by the physiotherapist/trainer, and conduct assessments.

• Finish treatment plans, progress notes, and quarterly reports on schedule.

• Create awareness among the general public about issues relating to war, torture, trauma, and SGBV.

• To become adept with CVT’s data-gathering tools, perform assessments, and produce and submit reports accurately and on time.

• Collaborate closely with the database team to guarantee accurate reporting.

• Serve as a linguist and cultural interpreter for customers and other CVT employees. When necessary, you may also help with written translation.

• Assume responsibility for continuing your professional growth by staying current on evidence-based techniques for managing CVT clients.

• Assist in the day-to-day clinical activities to make sure clients are given appointments on time, group work activities and room designation are planned and coordinated equitably, equipment is shared and organized properly, and other CVT client protocols are followed.

• Help with the creation, organization, execution, and facilitation of external training for various target groups.

• Ensure that all treatment areas and client-use equipment are clean, and have a tidy, polished look.

• Create new referral mechanisms, enhance current ones with other organizations in Nguenyyiel Gambella, and communicate with additional partners and stakeholders as needed.

• Use supervision, debriefings, and other group activities to practice good self-care.

• Ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed and archived in a timely and professional manner. • Maintain current clinical records and statistical data.

• Ensure that all client work complies with CVT’s confidentiality regulations and that all ethical conduct adheres to the World Physiotherapy Standards.

• Ensure that all treatment areas and client-use equipment are clean, and have a tidy, polished look.

• Upon request, participate in all regularly planned training and meetings required for career advancement and team collaboration.

• Assist with any other relevant tasks that the physiotherapist or trainer deems essential.

• This profile may be changed to fit the project environment and requirements.

• A strong commitment to serving project beneficiaries from all backgrounds, including race, gender, ethnicity, and politics.

• Is steadfastly devoted to abiding by CVT’s confidentiality policy and abstaining from sharing any customer information with other parties.

• Without first receiving permission from the CVT supervisor, will not approach (possible) beneficiaries to ask them to participate in non-CVT activities.

• Maintain complete privacy for all handled information. Obligation to notify the supervisor of any information when the safety of CVT employees or beneficiaries may be in jeopardy.

• CVT has zero tolerance for the sexual exploitation and abuse of beneficiaries. This job profile may be modified to reflect changes in CVT operations. Everyone is accountable for preventing sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), and all employees are expected to constantly abide by the Code of Conduct, which upholds the PSEA principles (both within and outside of work hours).

Conditions of Employment Initial contract, contingent upon financing, from September 2023 through August 31, 2024, with a potential renewal beyond, likewise contingent upon funding.

Four (4) individuals are necessary.

Position Requirements

Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy is required. • One year of experience in comparable circumstances with an international NGO is required (experience working with children is preferred).

• Must speak and write Amharic, Nuer, Anyuak, and English with ease.

Strong organizational abilities and a high degree of self-control. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to listen with empathy.

Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, meet deadlines, and have problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Good team player: able to take direction and work collaboratively with others. Result-oriented, flexible, and able to adapt to change. Ability to promote the values of equality. Computer literacy is highly desired.

• Possesses a valid practise permit issued by the Ethiopian Physiotherapist Association.
