The Core Mission: Strategy, Content, and Leadership
The Communications Manager will be the driving force behind WVE’s narrative, ensuring all storytelling powerfully resonates with donors, partners, and the global community. You will be responsible for fostering a culture of creativity, calculated risk-taking, and continuous learning within the communications team.
Key Responsibilities at a Glance:
- Strategic Content: Lead the development and continuous refinement of the Annual Content Plan, aligning communications objectives with donor needs, organizational strategy, and advocacy goals.
- Team Leadership: Directly supervise the Media and Corporate Storytelling Manager and functionally guide Field Storytelling Coordinators. Mentor staff and organize targeted professional development sessions.
- Quality & Ethics: Personally review high-risk content and flagship assignments for clarity, safeguarding, and reputational risk. Oversee the StoryHub workflow for ethical and high-quality content archiving.
- Thought Leadership: Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to identify themes and guide the creation of white papers, strategic reports, and advocacy statements to elevate WVE’s position.
- Risk Management: Draft communications output related to complex safeguarding issues or reputational crises, working closely with IMTs (Incident Management Teams).
What World Vision Requires: Qualifications & Experience
This senior role demands a blend of academic excellence and proven, multi-channel field experience, particularly within donor-funded environments.
Mandatory Requirements:
The successful candidate must possess the following:
- Education: Advanced degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: Minimum 8 years’ experience in multi-channel communications management. This must include strong experience in donor-funded contexts and field engagement.
- Leadership Track Record: Proven experience in team and matrix leadership, including skills development and change management.
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience overseeing editorial quality, content databases (like StoryHub), and communications planning **at scale**.
- Core Skills: Expertise in safeguarding, ethics, digital storytelling tools, and sector positioning.
- Language: Excellent written and spoken communication in English and Amharic is mandatory.
Preferred Attributes:
- Familiarity with content/workflow management platforms.
- Experience fostering psychologically safe, learning-oriented teams.
- Strong capacity for empathy, strategic insight, and operational discipline.
- Fluency in other local languages is highly valued.
