Mission for Community Development program (MCDP) is an Ethiopian Residents Charitable Organization founded in June 1998 by volunteer Ethiopian Nationalities and re-registered in Ethiopia (Reg. no. 0425). MCDP strives to bring a lasting change and improvement in the lives of the disadvantaged members of the community, with a principal emphasis on children and women through an integrated urban and rural development programs and with a robust participation of the community. Over the past two decades the organization made a steady progress expanding and scaling up its interventions into seven operational areas located in Addis Ababa, Oromia and SNNP regions.

MCDP’s programmatic framework is grounded by the “theory of change” that mainly posits the promotion and application of integrated urban and rural community-based development approaches to ensure sustainable change in the quality of life of the target groups. Accordingly, MCDP embarked on a range of intervention projects such as : prevention of child trafficking and child labour, women empowerment, women enterprise development, education, early childhood care and development, girls education, promotion of ICT for girls education, nutrition and sanitation, urban agriculture, natural resource management and climate change, prevention of unsafe migration and promotion of self-help group (SHG), village saving and loan association and saving and credit cooperatives (SACCO) approaches. Taken together, immense outcomes gained from these development interventions bestowed the organization to be a center for excellencein transforming the psychosocial and economic wellbeing of the substantial number of destitute children and women. Several organizations, including local and international NGOs, multilateral organizations, regional networks, government organizations, as well as higher education institutions frequently paid visit to MCDP’s project area to learn from its experience.

The Mission for Community Development Program (MCDP), an indigenous non-governmental organization dedicated to alleviating poverty through community development programs in Addis Ababa and SNNPR, is seeking experienced and qualified candidates for two key positions.

Both positions are for the Child Domestic Workers (CDWs) Project in Addis Ababa.

About the Child Domestic Workers (CDWs) Project

The CDWs Project is a vital initiative committed to promoting the rights and well-being of Child Domestic Workers. The project aims to significantly reduce the prevalence of servitude by improving living and working conditions, ensuring access to education, and providing essential psychosocial support through established Safe Spaces. These spaces offer beneficiaries counseling, recreational and educational activities, and opportunities to develop self-confidence and critical life skills.

 


Available Positions

1. Project Officer

  • Location: Addis Ababa
  • Salary: As per the organization’s salary scale.
  • Terms of Employment: One year with possible extension, subject to a 60-day probationary period.

Position Summary

The Project Officer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of project implementation, coordination, and monitoring on a day-to-day basis. The role requires proactive engagement to ensure the protection and empowerment of Child Domestic Workers. Key activities include close collaboration with community structures, government institutions, and civil society organizations, as well as supporting awareness creation, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Child Development, Law, or a related field. (A Master’s Degree is an asset).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in project implementation, preferably in child protection, child labor, or community development programs.
  • Key Competencies:
    • Strong understanding of child rights, child labor, and psychosocial support issues.
    • Proven experience in community mobilization and coordination with local authorities.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with vulnerable children.
    • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken), with strong report writing and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Basic Computer application skills.

2. Psychologist (Female)

  • Location: Addis Ababa
  • Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Counseling/Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
  • Salary: As per the organization’s salary scale.
  • Terms of Employment: One year with possible extension, subject to a 60-day probationary period.

Job Summary

The Psychologist will be a core member of the project team, responsible for providing comprehensive psychosocial support to Child Domestic Workers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Supporting the emotional well-being of CDWs and strengthening their resilience, confidence, and coping skills.
  • Organizing and conducting workshops and trainings for CDWs.
  • Building the capacity of community facilitators and stakeholders working within the Safe Space and the broader project framework.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Essential Requirements:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with vulnerable children or in child protection/mental health projects.
    • Strong understanding of child development, trauma, and effective psychosocial support approaches.
    • Demonstrated experience in counseling, case management, and group facilitation.
    • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken), with proven interpersonal and report writing skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong empathy and cultural sensitivity.
    • Ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds and maintain strict confidentiality.
    • Basic Computer application skills.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working in Safe Spaces or other child-focused projects is a significant asset.
